Jeremy Herrmann is an American artist from California, based in New York City since 2012. He holds a BA from UC Santa Cruz and earned his MFA in Painting from the New York Studio School in 2014. His work explores the tension between abstraction and figuration, often shifting between the two to express personal fantasies, desires, and collective unconscious imagery.

Influenced by the legacy of 1940s–50s Abstract Expressionism, Herrmann brings these ideas into a contemporary context. He describes his practice as a “pulse”—a living rhythm meant to provoke emotion and introspection. Working in oil, water-based media, and drawing, he builds visceral palettes inspired by poisonous flora, snake patterns, and raw flesh tones.

Recurring motifs—doorways, vessels, ambiguous figures—act as symbols of transformation, vulnerability, and inner turmoil. Through color and form, Herrmann’s work invites viewers into a dialogue with the archetypal layers of the human psyche.
